City Cycling Expedition by Volksbank

Visiting a pediatric hospice, orphanage, and diaconal establishment en route

Get ready to pedal your way to good deeds and a greener planet! That's exactly what the folks at Volksbank did as they embarked on an odyssey spanning 31,899 kilometers in just 60 days. As one of 36 financial institutions participating, they managed to secure the 10th spot, all while raising awareness for sustainability and health.

But here's the fun part: this wasn't just any ordinary bicycle tour. The journey was part of the "Stadtradeln" event, a nationwide campaign in Germany encouraging folks to switch from cars to bikes for their daily commute. This event, more popularly known as "City Cycling" overseas, is all about promoting cycling for health, environmental sustainability, and reducing carbon emissions.

As for their feat of endurance, the 61 employees of Volksbank collectively raised 4,500 euros, which will be split evenly among three deserving causes: the Bergische Children's and Youth Hospice, the Haus Michael children's home of the Wuppertal Youth Welfare Office, and the Tagesgruppen Eisbaeren and Eichhoernchen of the Bergische Diakonie Aprath in Remscheid.

Sandra Wiedenhoff, the health manager at Volksbank im Bergischen Land, couldn't be prouder of her team's efforts. And rightfully so! They've not only achieved their highest fundraising goal but also made an significant impact on reducing their carbon footprint.

Important to note, while fundraising for children's charities isn't a regularly featured aspect of the "Stadtradeln" event, teams like Volksbank often seize the opportunity to make a difference. Participating groups frequently organize their own fundraising efforts through local sponsorships, crowdfunding campaigns, or pledging a certain amount per kilometer cycled by team members.

All in all, the "Stadtradeln" event is more than just a bike ride—it's a chance for individuals to join forces and make a positive impact on the environment, their health, and, as in the case of Volksbank, the lives of countless children in need. Now that's a cause worth pedaling for!

Committing to both science and health-and-wellness, the team at Volksbank embarked on a "City Cycling" expedition, not only improving their own health through cycling but also raising funds for children's charities, such as the Bergische Children's and Youth Hospice, demonstrating their commitment to western Germany's sustainability and environmental causes.
