Vietnam's First Lab Institute Launched to Fight Cardiovascular Disease
Bạch Mai Hospital in Hà Nội has launched Vietnam's first Laboratory Institute, consolidating all its testing units into one. This initiative aims to improve cardiovascular health nationwide by connecting patient records across provinces and cities.
The new institute is fully automated, employing robotics and AI for efficient testing. It offers online results and free basic screenings linked to electronic health records from 2026. This advancement will benefit patients in remote or disadvantaged areas, providing access to leading specialists through shared data.
Cardiovascular conditions are becoming more complex and affecting younger people, making prevention and treatment challenging. The connected network of laboratories will reduce duplicate testing, lower treatment costs, and provide a clearer picture of disease trends. This data will enable the health sector to design more effective strategies.
A national database on cardiovascular diseases will be developed to strengthen prevention, monitoring, and treatment. The Ministry of Health will use this database to analyze disease patterns by region and enhance policy-making, moving towards personalized treatment.
With cardiovascular disease being the top killer in Vietnam, claiming around 200,000 lives each year, the Laboratory Institute's establishment is a significant step towards combating this issue. By connecting patient records and improving data sharing, the health sector can design more effective strategies, ultimately saving lives and reducing the nation's mortality rate.
