In the heart of Lao Cai province, the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) Ky Son office has been making a significant impact, not just financially, but also emotionally, in times of hardship.

Recently, the VBSP Ky Son office spearheaded a post-flood recovery support campaign in Muong Xen commune from July 22 to 24, 2025. This initiative was a direct response to the severe flooding that hit the region, exacerbated by Typhoon Wipha, which caused extensive infrastructure damage and isolated thousands of households in Nghe An province, including Muong Xen[1][2].

The campaign was centred around timely and compassionate support, with the VBSP Ky Son office working directly at the Muong Xen Commune People's Committee headquarters to assist local residents[3]. In addition, helicopters were utilised to deliver essential supplies such as food, water, medicine, and life jackets to Muong Xen and neighbouring communes due to disrupted road access[2].

Nguyen Thi Ly, a resident of Cau Tam hamlet, expressed her gratitude for the VBSP Ky Son office's assistance during the flood. The office's efforts have been instrumental in helping flood-affected residents recover and rebuild their lives[3].

Beyond post-disaster relief, the VBSP Ky Son office has been actively involved in various lending programs focused on job creation, supporting students in hardship, social housing, clean water, and rural sanitation[4]. The office has also played a key role in delivering preferential credit to ethnic minority communities, remote areas, and disadvantaged regions[5].

VBSP's commitment to inclusive lending has been evident in its strong credit growth and disbursement in the first five months of the year, setting the foundation for its 2025 goal of expanding its reach and supporting national development goals[6]. The bank has ensured the safe and efficient implementation of tasks assigned by the Party and state in the first six months of the year[7].

In essence, the VBSP Ky Son office's work in Muong Xen was a targeted, direct support initiative that helped flood-affected residents through local coordination and essential supply distribution, proving crucial in a region facing heavy flood disruption and isolation[1][2][3]. The office's dedication to assisting those in need, whether through financial aid or emotional support, is a testament to its commitment to the sustainable development of Lao Cai province.

The VBSP Ky Son office extended help beyond post-disaster relief, also participating in programs that bolster job creation, support students in hardship, and promote clean water and rural sanitation, which align with the health-and-wellness sector of society. Nguyen Thi Ly conveyed that the office's assistance during the flood gave flood-affected residents in Muong Xen a crucial means to recover and rebuild their lives, which can be seen as a significant contribution to science, as disaster relief strategies can be studied and applied to future scenarios.
