In a thought-provoking roundtable discussion organised by MHA and CG at the Bonded Warehouse in Manchester, business leaders shared insights on investment, succession planning, and exit strategies.

Sean Mitchell, a tax partner at MHA, emphasised the importance of incentivising key staff and taking care of personal wealth outside the business. Hannah Munro, managing director of ITA Solutions, underlined the significance of understanding valuable customers and being authentic as an entrepreneur.

Ben Dredge, managing partner of CG, a North West law firm with nearly 70 staff across three offices, highlighted the importance of looking after mental health and being authentic as a business owner. He was joined by Danny Schweiger, co-founder of Character World, who shared his experience of dealing with panic attacks.

Nick Richardson, founder of The Insights Family, advised planning for the end game of a business, especially if aiming for a £10m-£20m business. Rob Richardson, corporate finance partner at MHA, emphasised the importance of having a clear objective when it comes to business planning, whether or not it involves taking investment.

Dave Timmis, founder of Leasing.com, recommended focusing on a niche, delivering the best customer experience, surrounding oneself with the best people, and empowering them to be their best. He also advised listening to customers and keeping them happy, without expressing any fear of failure.

In the tech sector, Dominic Bennett, CEO of Aspire Software, an eLearning platform that leans heavily on AI to increase efficiency, was present. He shared insights on the role of technology in business planning and growth.

Commercial Director Richard Barnes of Fanatics, Inc. mentioned seeing green shoots of recovery in the market. Meanwhile, Mark Lindsay, CEO of WeDo Finance, encouraged trying new things, not being afraid to fail, and following passions in life and business.

Lastly, Derry Green, owner of Secret Garden, shared that his plans change frequently, with a focus on finding a more stable line of growth. Kate Burt, founder and CEO of HiveRisk, a Preston-based company that advises law firms on market strategy, insights, and regulatory compliance, rounded off the discussion with her expertise.

The roundtable discussion provided a valuable platform for business leaders to share their experiences, insights, and advice on various aspects of business management and growth.
