Tulsa County Unites to Curb Youth Access to Tobacco and E-cigarettes

In Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA, a comprehensive effort is underway to reduce youth access to tobacco and e-cigarette products. The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) Healthy Living Program is collaborating with various partners to enforce laws and implement prevention measures. This initiative involves local authorities, state agencies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and businesses.

Key partners include the Tulsa Health Department, which organizes training for retailers, inspections, and awareness programs; the Tulsa Police Department, which supports enforcement and participates in 'stings' to detect illegal sales; and the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission (ABLE). State agencies like the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and the Oklahoma State Department of Health provide resources and support. Non-profits such as the American Lung Association in Oklahoma and Oklahoma Turning Point contribute to awareness campaigns and community initiatives. Schools, universities, and local businesses also play a significant role. Joint actions include compliance checks, retailer education, political advocacy, and community outreach. The program aims to reduce youth smoking, with 9.1% of Oklahoma high school students currently smoking and 27.8% vaping. Underage volunteers will conduct store visits to ensure compliance. The TSET Healthy Living Program also focuses on smoking restrictions in multi-unit housing and healthy food assistance options.

Through collaboration and shared responsibility, Tulsa County is committed to reducing youth access to tobacco and improving overall health and wellness. Retailers who refuse to sell to underage customers are acknowledged and thanked. For more information, contact Corey Love at clove@our website or call 918-595-4267.
