Thirty years of geriatric care at Klinikum Bad Hersfeld celebrated with an eye towards future advancements
Bad Hersfeld Hospital Geriatrics Department 30th Anniversary
Interdisciplinary Cooperation and Future Challenges in Geriatric Care
On Saturday, the Bad Hersfeld Hospital celebrated the 30th anniversary of its Geriatrics department, marking three decades of accompanying older people medically and humanely in the best possible way.
The event, which took place from 10 am to 2 pm, featured a lecture program in Auditorium 1, numerous information booths on South Station 3, and interdisciplinary collaboration between different professional groups.
Prof. Dr. Horn, the hospital's director, summarised the hospital's 30-year commitment as "accompanying older people medically and humanely in the best possible way."
Topics such as the history of geriatrics in Bad Hersfeld, close collaboration between geriatrics and orthopedics, current developments in geriatric care, and future challenges were in focus. Lectures were delivered by Dr. Helwig May, who helped establish the first station in 1995, and Dr. Constanze Bohl, the head physician of the orthopedic clinic.
Teams from nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social services, and gerontopsychology were present to answer questions. From 11 am, visitors could engage in conversation at the information booths.
A patient spontaneously contributed to the lecture program, expressing gratitude for the interlocking care provided. Many visitors took the opportunity to ask individual questions and gather comprehensive information.
The anniversary was an opportunity for the hospital to look back on its achievements and ahead to new therapeutic concepts for an aging society. Dr. Axel Saure, the head geriatrician, emphasised that geriatric medicine is teamwork and that the event showed they are on the right track. He also highlighted the increasingly close collaboration with orthopedics.
Visitors were impressed by the variety of offerings, with topics such as geriatric traumatology, modern delirium prevention, medical preventive care in old age, and nutrition and diabetes counseling on the agenda. The event concluded with Dr. Constanze Bohl expressing pleasure in collaborating with the geriatrics department for treating older patients.
The Bad Hersfeld Hospital would like to thank all visitors for enriching the day with their interest and questions. The outstanding overall result in treatment due to the interlocking gears of care was evident throughout the event.
