In an effort to enhance road safety and raise awareness among young road users, the Police Department in Salzgitter has launched a campaign called "Safety through Visibility". This initiative aims to significantly increase the road safety of the youngest road users in the area.
The campaign, spearheaded by Police Officer Matthias Pintak, who also serves in press and public relations for the Police Salzgitter, seeks to prepare children for road traffic in a playful and practical way. The aim is to equip them with essential road safety knowledge while ensuring their safe conduct on the roads.
Public Insurance Braunschweig has shown its support for this cause by donating approximately 1400 safety vests to first-graders in the Salzgitter area. These vests, combined with light clothing, offer maximum visibility, making children noticeable from a distance of 140 meters. This increased visibility provides drivers with enough time to brake and avoid potential accidents.
Kathrin Lacey, the traffic safety advisor of the police in Salzgitter, often conducts road safety education with teachers from schools. She emphasises the importance of this initiative, stating, "The risk of accidents is higher during the dark season, particularly in the morning darkness or twilight. With the luminous safety vests, we can significantly contribute to the safety of our children."
The distribution of the safety vests will occur after the autumn holidays. For further questions, Matthias Pintak can be contacted at the Police Salzgitter Press Office/Public Relations. His contact information includes telephone number 05341/1897-104 and email [email protected].
The police department's website, http://www.polizei.niedersachsen.de, provides more information about the campaign and road safety measures. The motto of the campaign, "Safety through Visibility", underscores the importance of anticipatory driving and mutual consideration of all road users. Drivers are urged to be prepared to brake and take their foot off the gas, especially when children appear at the roadside.
Anticipatory driving, coupled with the increased visibility provided by the safety vests, contributes significantly to the safety of the children. The campaign is a commendable step towards ensuring the safety of young road users and fostering a road safety culture in the community.
