Solar Flares Trigger Magnetic Storms: Health Precautions Advised

Be prepared, as solar flares are set to trigger magnetic storms that could exacerbate health issues, particularly for those with cardiovascular diseases, vegetovascular dystonia, and obesity. The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) under NOAA advises precautions to mitigate potential negative impacts.

The SWPC, responsible for analysing and forecasting magnetic storms since 2021, warns of common symptoms during these events. These include mood deterioration, fatigue, headache, sleep disturbances, depressive state, and blood pressure fluctuations. People may also experience joint pain and worsening of chronic diseases.

To protect your health, avoid stress and conflict situations. Limit driving, as magnetic storms can affect vehicle electronics. Stock up on necessary medications if you have chronic illnesses. For prevention, avoid overexertion, spend time outdoors, eat light food, limit smoking and alcohol, get enough sleep, and do light morning exercises. Also, steer clear of coffee, alcohol, and smoking during these periods. Intense physical activity should be avoided, and ensure adequate rest and a healthy diet.

Magnetic storms, triggered by solar flares, can cause inattentiveness, argumentativeness, and anxiety. The SWPC advises preparation and precautions to minimise their negative health impacts. By following these guidelines, individuals can better navigate these events and protect their well-being.
