' Rowing to Conquer Cancer': Offenbach Charity Regatta Blends Competition and Camaraderie
On Sunday, October 6, 2024, the 10th Offenbach Benefit Regatta 'Rowing Against Cancer' will take place on the Main river. This annual event, organized by the Life with Cancer Foundation, aims to raise funds for important therapies for cancer patients and to provide encouragement. A total of 240 rowers will participate, divided into 60 four-person teams. The Wassersportverein 1926 e.V. Offenbach has been preparing the teams for the event for months. The race will be approximately 300 meters long and will take place in front of the boathouse of the Wassersportverein 1926 e.V. Offenbach a.M. - Bürgel.
The main sponsor of the regatta is Boehringer Ingelheim, with the Furstlich Castellsche Bank providing significant support. The bank supports all locations with a four-figure amount, making the event an important driving force in the fight against cancer.
Dr. Thomas Bellut, chairman of the Life with Cancer Foundation, stated that the regatta not only raises funds for the foundation's work but also mobilizes communal experience and solidarity. Manuela Damm, sports chairwoman of the WSV, emphasized the motivation of the club members to support the event.
The race categories are 'Newcomer' and 'Veterans', and cancer patients will also participate. The proceeds from the regatta will be invested in the sport therapeutic care of cancer patients in cooperation with the Sana Clinic Offenbach.
