Rep. Greene Urges Colleagues to Act on Obamacare Subsidies as Democrats Prioritize Extension
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has urged her colleagues to address expiring Obamacare subsidies, warning of potential premium hikes. This call comes as Democrats prioritise extending Obamacare funding during the ongoing government shutdown, while Republicans remain divided on the issue.
Greene's own adult children's insurance premiums could double in 2026 if the subsidies expire. She has called for action to avoid such hikes, stating, 'We must renew these subsidies to prevent Americans from being priced out of their healthcare.'
Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas, however, has questioned the Republican party's plan to deal with premium increases, quoting Greene's demand but not mentioning any Democratic support for her stance on Twitter or elsewhere.
Democrats, meanwhile, have made extending expiring Obamacare funding their top priority during the shutdown. Republicans, on the other hand, are split on the issue, with some advocating for an extension and others wanting the funding to expire.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., have insisted that the health care funding issue will not be discussed until Democrats reopen the government. As the shutdown continues, the fate of Obamacare subsidies and their impact on premiums remains uncertain.
