In the heart of Stuttgart, Germany, the Weißenhof Forum, a new central hub for the International Building Exhibition 2027 (IBA'27), is taking shape. This innovative structure will serve as a focal point for discussions and activities related to architecture, urban development, and modernity, integrating modernist ideas with contemporary ecological, economic, and social challenges.

The Weißenhof Forum, part of the historic Weissenhofsiedlung estate, is a significant component of IBA'27, which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Weissenhofsiedlung in 2027. This renowned example of modernist architecture is globally recognized, with the Le Corbusier houses ascending to UNESCO World Heritage status in 2016.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Weißenhof Forum, held on July 23, 2025, was attended by notable figures such as Dr. Frank Nopper, Mayor of Stuttgart, and Dr. Gabriele König, CEO of IBA'27 GmbH. Both expressed their excitement about the project, with Dr. König stating that it translates the language of modernism into the present.

The design for the Weißenhof Forum is a testament to sustainability, with construction in wood and clay, a photovoltaic facade, and a green roof aiming for a climate-neutral plus-energy standard. The consortium responsible for the planning and implementation of the Weißenhof Forum, Zech Hochbau AG / Barkow Leibinger Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH, was chosen for its high architectural quality and forward-looking energy concept.

The South view of the Weißenhof Forum was visualized by Barkow Leibinger, with visualizations available for download. Construction work on the Weißenhof Forum has now begun, following the successful demolition of the old building. The completion and commissioning of the Weißenhof Forum are planned by 31 December 2026, with the building expected to open in 2027.

The Weißenhof Forum will offer a variety of facilities, including exhibition areas, a media room, a shop, gastronomy, and event and workspaces. Situated at the entrance to the Weissenhofsiedlung, it will serve as a welcoming gateway for visitors to the exhibition and a symbol of the site's continued relevance in modern urban planning.

The city of Stuttgart, the Friends of the Weissenhofsiedlung association, and various volunteers and staff are key contributors to the project. The planners from Barkow Leibinger and the construction team from Zech Hochbau are also involved, working together to create a laboratory for future-oriented urban planning and building culture.

As the countdown to IBA'27 begins, the Weißenhof Forum stands as a beacon of innovation, sustainability, and modernism, ready to welcome visitors and inspire the next generation of architects and urban planners.

The Weißenhof Forum, in its role as a significant component of IBA'27, will not only focus on architecture and urban development, but also integrate discussions related to science, specifically health-and-wellness, fitness-and-exercise, and environmental-science.

The design of the Weißenhof Forum, incorporating sustainable materials such as wood and clay, and energy-efficient features like a photovoltaic facade, symbolizes a modern approach that emphasizes health-and-wellness, environmental-science, and fitness-and-exercise alongside architectural innovation.
