Politician Josefa von Hohenzollern, known for stirring controversy, welcomes a child at the age of 51
In a remarkable turn of events, Josefa von Hohenzollern, a German princess and politician, has become the first mayor of Leonberg, a town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The mother of one, who is also a district councilor in Böblingen, has managed to juggle her family responsibilities with her political career.
Josefa, a member of the historic House of Hohenzollern, moved to Leonberg in 2020. She first announced her candidacy for mayor shortly before the sudden death of her husband, Prince Harald von Hohenzollern, in June 2021. Since then, she has been running for re-election while balancing her role as a new mother.
On Thursday morning, Josefa gave birth to a son named Leopold at the Leonberg clinic. The birth was confirmed by the German Press Agency (dpa). If she cannot take her son with her during the campaign, Josefa has organized family care for him.
Josefa served as the mayor of Kollnburg in the Bavarian Forest before her move to Leonberg. However, her tenure as the mayor of Kollnburg was cut short in 2023 when she was released from her duties by the incumbent mayor, Martin Cohn. This decision led to a dispute between the two, with Josefa reporting Martin to the police in 2022 due to a traffic offense. Martin, who will not be running again in the upcoming mayoral election, had previously filed a complaint against Josefa and suspended her.
Despite the challenges, Josefa remains undeterred and has announced her intention to re-enter the local election campaign after a brief pause. She expressed her joy at the birth of her son on social networks, marking a new chapter in her life as a politician and a mother.
Josefa, who is 51 years old, holds several roles including jurist, political scientist, and public administrator. She is also affiliated with the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) party in Leonberg. Her political career in Leonberg may be recent, but it is currently prominent.
