Political initiative in Hamm: "Children Paint for Seniors" - Police in Hamm promotes caution against fraud crimes in Bockum-Hovel

In the city of Hamm, a unique campaign called "Children Paint for Seniors" has been launched by the local police force, led by Chief Superintendent Jon Hamm, to raise awareness about telephone fraud targeting the elderly. The initiative, a collaboration with primary schools in Bockum-Hoevel, aims to educate seniors about the dangers of such scams and protect them from becoming victims.

The campaign, spearheaded by Chief Superintendent Jon Hamm at the Police Headquarters Hamm, can be contacted for further questions at [email protected] or by phone at 02381 916-1006. More information about the campaign is available on the dedicated website at https://hamm.polizei.nrw/.

The scammers usually fabricate a financial emergency or a crisis, such as an accident, car, or computer purchase, to create a sense of urgency. They often impersonate relatives, grandchildren, or good acquaintances to elderly and lonely individuals, using phrases like "Guess who's calling". Once the victim agrees to pay, a person is announced to pick up the money.

To combat this issue, schoolchildren in Bockum-Hoevel have created paintings warning the elderly about telephone scams. From June 11th, letters with self-painted pictures by these primary school students will be distributed in letterboxes by security partners and volunteers. The distribution of these letters is aimed at protecting seniors from becoming victims of telephone fraud.

The campaign, initially launched in Bockum-Hoevel, is planned to be implemented in all districts of Hamm in the future. It's important to note that victims are often put under pressure by repeated calls and sworn to secrecy. The increase in telephone fraud cases exploiting the gullibility of seniors is the motivation behind this special campaign.

The Police Headquarters Hamm urges everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious calls to the authorities. By working together, we can ensure the safety and well-being of our seniors in Hamm.
