Parents Detained After Children's Diphtheria Crisis
Police have launched criminal proceedings against parents who allegedly neglected their children, leading to a serious health crisis. The children, infected with diphtheria, required immediate hospitalization. The parents have been detained.
The alarm was raised on September 20 when the Children's Hospital reported a woman removing her two children against medical advice. The police swiftly located the children on Saturday and returned them to the hospital for treatment.
Investigations revealed that the family's three children had previously been treated in a general hospital in Gaza or Jordan due to conflict-related injuries. Despite medical advice, the parents were discharged early. The children were later evacuated to a hospital near me, cared for by teams from humanitarian organizations like Médecins Sans Frontières.
The police have initiated criminal proceedings for deliberate neglect, putting the children's lives at risk. The parents have been detained, and the children are now receiving the necessary medical care. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to medical advice for the well-being of vulnerable children.
