"Officials swiftly respond as employee ceases breathing"
Headline: Heroic Actions Save Life of Newspaper Carrier in Germany
In a heart-stopping moment on a Wednesday morning in late July, Manfred Baader, a newspaper and letter carrier at the Waldseer Merkuria branch, experienced a cardiac arrest. Fortunately, two of his colleagues, Maximilian Waegle and Ulrich Gapp, were present and quickly sprang into action.
Waegle, the organization leader, and Gapp, the second-in-command, didn't hesitate. Gapp immediately began a heart rhythm massage, while Waegle sang "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee-Gees to maintain the rhythm. After a brief interlude, Waegle took over the heart rhythm massage, and Gapp performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Following telephone instructions from an emergency doctor, they continued their efforts.
Their quick thinking and decisive action paid off. After an electric shock from the defibrillator, Baader regained consciousness. Despite the ordeal, he felt dizzy and his health quickly deteriorated during the subsequent conversation. Nevertheless, he was taken to the hospital for further care and is now on the road to recovery, expressing relief and gratitude towards his colleagues and the rescue chain.
Baader has since received a pacemaker as a result of the health emergency. He remains optimistic, expressing his desire to return to work. Gapp and Waegle, on the other hand, feel a strong sense of responsibility and relief that their training and prompt action helped save a life. They are proud of their ability to keep Baader alive with limited skill.
The incident has deepened the bond between the colleagues and has likely resulted in discussions about health, safety protocols, and possibly an increased focus on emergency readiness within their workplace. The smooth operation of the rescue chain, from the initial emergency call to further care, is a testament to the importance of being prepared for unexpected events.
