Increased Occurrence of Respiratory Ailments in Rhine-Palatinate Region - Numerous respiratory illnesses prevalent in Rhine-Palatinate region.

In the first three months of 2025, Rhineland-Palatinate experienced a significant rise in respiratory illnesses among those insured by DAK, according to a report by the health insurer. The increase in absenteeism due to respiratory problems was approximately 20% larger compared to the same period in 2024.

This increase was somewhat countered by decreases in most other categories of illness, resulting in an overall sickness rate of 6.4% for the first quarter, a mere 0.1 percentage points above the rate in the same period of the previous year.

The findings are based on an analysis of data from around 132,000 employed individuals insured by DAK in Rhineland-Palatinate, conducted by the IGES Institute in Berlin.

The increase in respiratory illnesses seems to be primarily attributed to a strong wave of colds and respiratory infections at the beginning of the year.
