"New play area unveiled": Children's hospital in Bayreuth reveals newly constructed playground
In the heart of Bayreuth, the Children's Clinic at the Bayreuth Clinic has reopened its renovated playground, providing a much-needed source of joy and normality for its young patients.
The playground, located in the inner courtyard of the Children's Clinic, was made possible by numerous donations and investments. The total value of the new play equipment is approximately 40,000 euros, while the clinic invested around 55,000 euros for construction measures, including a new floor covering.
Mayor Thomas Ebersberger, the chairman of the hospital purpose association, expressed his gratitude to all those involved in the renovation, thanking them for their generous support. The Supervisory Board Chairman Landrat Florian Wiedemann and CEO Dietmar Pawlik also attended the inauguration.
Pawlik emphasized that the new playground shows the clinic's focus on the children's overall well-being, not just their illness. He further added that the clinic offers comprehensive medical care, school accompaniment, pedagogical care, and family-friendly structures, aiming to provide a holistic approach to patient care.
Ilona Golla, the educational director of the children's clinic, handed over the playground to the children during a first round of "Four in a Row" with one of her young patients. The playground is designed to offer a safe and engaging environment for children, providing them with a sense of normalcy amidst their hospital stay.
Prof. Dr. Patrick Morhart, who is expected to bring excellent professional expertise, scientific experience, and a great heart for children to further develop the clinic and strengthen the Bayreuth location in the field of children's and youth medicine, will take over as the new clinic director on October 1.
The Children's Clinic faces challenges such as increasing economic pressure, a persistent shortage of skilled workers, and the need to provide both basic care and highly specialized top medicine. Despite these challenges, the clinic continues to strive for the best possible care for its young patients, as evidenced by the renovated playground and playroom.
While the specific foundation that supported the renovation of the playground is not identified, it is clear that the generosity of donors played a crucial role in making this project a reality. The Children's Clinic at the Bayreuth Clinic extends its deepest gratitude to all those who contributed to this wonderful initiative.
