Midwives commemorating a birthday celebration
The Dresden Midwifery House, located at Louisenstraße 75, 01099 Dresden, is inviting everyone to a celebration on Sunday, September 21st. This special occasion will see a small festival programme unfold, featuring music by Ziganimo, a choir performance by the midwives, face painting for kids, and refreshments for all.
Established 20 years ago, the midwifery house has been a beacon of individual, natural care in the city. Since moving into its current location, a former engineering office, on February 1, 2005, it has assisted around 1,640 births, with approximately 100 taking place annually. About a third of these births occur directly at the midwifery house.
The midwifery house offers a range of services, from birth preparation to postpartum care, and courses for families in the first year of the child's life. It works closely with the Diakonissenhospital, not as competition but as a complement.
The founder of the Dresden Midwifery House, Barbara Saller, has been active in the institution for 20 years. Hanna Wessel, a midwife at the house, decided on her career choice at a young age due to her family's experiences with midwives. She joined the midwifery house six years ago and has not regretted her decision.
Co-founder Annett Lorenz had professional roots in textile technology before joining midwifery. Midwifery work can be challenging due to irregular working hours, potential prolonged births, and high liability insurance contributions. However, midwives often accompany families up to the first birthday of the child, making the challenges worthwhile.
Families travel up to 50 kilometers to use the services of the midwifery house, a testament to the trust and respect it has earned over the years. The celebration starts at 3 PM, and everyone is invited to join in the festivities.
