The Piedmont Region has announced a new round of overtime services aimed at reducing waiting lists and addressing the longest waiting times in local healthcare facilities. Funded with 10 million euros, this initiative is expected to boost diagnostic, surgical, and specialist services across regional ASLs (Aziende Sanitarie Locali) and hospitals.

According to Health Assessor Federico Riboldi, directors general of ASLs and hospitals have been informed to start strengthening services this month. The target is ambitious, with a goal to complete 7,500 services by August and 100,000 by December.

The focus of these new services will be on the 15 services with the longest waiting times. The new overtime services will include evening and weekend visits/exams, catering to the needs of the most vulnerable population segments who typically remain in the cities during August.

However, no details have been provided by the City of Health regarding the new overtime services. The question lingering among managers is whether it would have been better to start in September instead of August. Riboldi maintains a firm position that the target of 7,500 visits/exams this month is non-negotiable.

The ASL in Turin predicts that "professionals will perform 200 services". As the region gears up for this initiative, many managers are rushing to organize at least a certain number of services to meet the Region's requests and citizen's expectations.

The first additional services have already started in Gastroenterology, Gynecology, and Pneumology, with Mauriziano leading the way. After the success of the first phase, over 65,000 outstanding services were recovered. The first round of overtime visits, funded with 27 million euros, started in February.

The funds for the new services have been announced but not yet received. The 10 million euros for the new overtime services have not yet been received by the healthcare companies. Each company will decide how to proceed regarding Saturday and Sunday services based on holidays.
