Medical practitioner under investigation for allegedly delivering anesthesia to a patient - Legal Action Taken: Anesthesiologist Faces Trial over Patient's Demise

Get ready for a grim turn of events as an old-school anesthesiologist prepares to face justice in Berlin's Regional Court, starting on Tuesday (9:00 AM). This particular case stems back to five years ago and revolves around the demise of a 59-year-old patient. The accused has found himself entangled in a web of charges, with bodily harm culminating in death being the most severe.

Curiously, the court has also left open the possibility of a conviction based on attempted manslaughter by omission. Seems like our anesthesiologist, now 78, has got some 'splainin' to do.

Fast forward to January 27, 2020, where our patient was receiving treatment for a stubborn back injury in the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg. An orthopedist called in the accused to put the woman under general anesthesia - a routine operation that took an unpleasant turn.

The charges against this chap list a series of mistakes. Allegedly, he failed to properly monitor the woman's vital signs during the anesthesia. His neglect reportedly led to a prolonged response to hers ceasing to breathe and heartbeat. Worse yet, he neglected to keep the attending physician and other physicians informed about the earlier stages of treatment.

After resuscitation efforts, the woman apparently slipped into a coma and remained unconscious until her untimely demise from a lung infection toward the end of April 2020. The trial is expected to run for 13 grueling days, ending on July 17.
