Law enforcement officials conducted searches at student dormitories in Astana
The emergency management department of the Nura district recently conducted a preventive raid to ensure the safety of hostels and dormitories in the area. The collaborative effort, which included the Nura district akimat and specialists from the Emergency Situations Department, aimed to enforce common fire safety rules and promote awareness among staff and residents.
Senior Lieutenant Aidos Baltabai, an inspector from the Nura district emergency management department, oversaw the raid. During the operation, informational brochures about fire safety were distributed, and recommendations to address fire safety violations were given. No use of any fire hazards, such as cookers, heaters, or speakers inside rooms, was allowed. Residents were also advised to avoid flammable and explosive materials, not to store such substances in rooms and common areas, and to observe all safety measures when using electrical appliances.
The main fire safety rules emphasized during the raid included keeping the fire alarm system in constant working order and being familiar with the evacuation plan. In addition, the prohibition of hazardous electrical equipment, strict compliance with fire safety norms, adequate ventilation and sanitation, and regular supervision and inspections were highlighted as crucial components of fire safety.
Emergency management departments manage compliance through various means, such as regular risk assessments and action plans, monitoring systems linked to central hubs or fire services, authority to inspect rooms and premises, issuance of approvals and No Objection Certificates (NOC) for PG accommodations and hostels, and engagement with residents via door-to-door exercises and tailored interventions.
During the raid, five hostels in the district were visited. The raid team also emphasized the importance of not blocking evacuation exits, having the necessary number of fire extinguishers, and not using basement floors for accommodation.
The preventive raid served as a reminder of the importance of fire safety in hostels and dormitories. By enforcing these rules and promoting awareness, the Nura district is taking significant steps towards ensuring the safety of its residents.
Science and health-and-wellness are crucial aspects in promoting fire safety. The distribution of informational brochures about fire safety during the raid can help educate residents on the correct usage of electrical appliances and the avoidance of flammable materials, thus contributing to overall health and wellness.
