Klaus Tschira Foundation grants eight scientists the KlarText Prize for Science Communication in 2025
Eight Winners Honoured with the KlarText Award for Science Communication 2025
On November 13, 2025, the KlarText Award for Science Communication will celebrate its winners. The awards, which recognise the best answers to the question "What exactly did you do in your doctoral thesis?", will be presented at an award ceremony in Heidelberg.
The Klaus Tschira Foundation, a leading supporter of natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science, has been encouraging young researchers to communicate their work effectively since 1997. This year, eight researchers have been honoured for their outstanding efforts in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, Neuroscience, Physics, and more.
Dr. Rebecka Molitor from the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf focused her research on bacterial enzymes (polyesterases) for a biological approach to plastic recycling in the deep sea. With expeditions to collect plastic debris and microorganisms from the North Atlantic, she aimed to use biotechnology to tackle plastic pollution.
Dr. Hanna Trzesniowski from the Technical University of Berlin investigated catalysts that improve hydrogen production. Her research could lead to more efficient and sustainable energy solutions.
Dr. Steffen Knoblauch from the University of Heidelberg demonstrated the application of satellite imagery combined with artificial intelligence to support the fight against dengue fever. His work could revolutionise disease control efforts.
Dr. Letitia Parcalabescu from the University of Heidelberg developed methods for improving the reliability of image and language models. Her research could lead to more accurate and efficient AI systems.
Dr. Christin Nyhoegen from the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel applied mathematical models to optimise antibiotic treatment strategies. Her work could improve medical treatment outcomes and combat antibiotic resistance.
Dr. Annika Konrad from the Technical University of Dresden explored the relationship between empathy and stress using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Her research could provide new insights into brain function under stress.
Dr. Felix Glang from the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen worked on enhancing the image quality and speed of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). His research could lead to more efficient and accurate diagnostic tools.
The award for best infographic went to Katharina Bensing from the Technical University of Darmstadt. Her infographic illustrated how fish use current fluctuations for orientation during migrations.
All winners will receive a prize of €7,500 each and will have their award-winning articles and infographics published in the KlarText Magazine from November 13, 2025. The articles and infographics will also be available on the KlarText Award website from 9:00 AM on the same day. Photo and video portraits of the winners will be available on the website under News from 7:30 PM.
The Klaus Tschira Foundation's nationwide commitment begins in kindergarten and continues in schools, universities, and research institutions. More information about the foundation can be found on its website.
