Kentucky Awards $19.8M to Combat Opioid Crisis

The Kentucky Attorney General's Office has awarded over $19.8 million to 75 organisations to combat the opioid and drug epidemic in Kentucky. The grants, announced at Goodwill's West Louisville Opportunity Center, were welcomed by local leaders and will support prevention and treatment efforts across the state.

The funding, totalling $19,803,933, was divided into two categories: Treatment/Recovery and Prevention, with $12,625,730 and $7,178,203 allocated respectively. The grants will benefit organisations serving various counties in Kentucky, with Goodwill Industries of Kentucky receiving $397,539 for coordinated reentry and recovery programming in Jefferson and Oldham counties.

Since 2021, the Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission has invested over $85 million in prevention, treatment, and fentanyl recovery efforts. The Commission, responsible for distributing Kentucky's share of over $900 million from opioid crisis settlements, has shown commitment to combating addiction in the state.

Attorney General Russell Coleman expressed pride in Kentucky's leadership in the fight against addiction, with Amy Luttrell, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, expressing gratitude for the support. Chris Evans praised the dedicated Kentuckians working to save lives through various programs. The awarded funds are expected to significantly impact the community's efforts to tackle the opioid and drug epidemic.
