Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister holds discussions on the prevailing circumstances in Almaty

In Almaty, Kazakhstan, the highest number of infection clusters have been reported in the Bostandyk, Almaly, Auezov, and Medau districts, according to recent data. This comes after an increase in COVID-19 cases in the city following a decline in early and mid-autumn.

During a meeting in Almaty, Deputy Prime Minister Erlan Tugzhanov emphasized the importance of coordinating the work of laboratories regarding PCR diagnostics for COVID-19. He also drew attention to the rise in disease incidence in the city and stated that the tasks set should be analyzed together with the city's Chief Sanitary Doctor and necessary measures should be taken.

The infection rate in Almaty is currently at 0.2%, and the spread coefficient is consistently above 1, indicating ongoing transmission of the virus. To curb the spread among the population, the city administration has taken measures to strengthen control over the observance of restriction regimes.

Organizations in Almaty were recommended to provide service transport for employees of industrial, construction, and transport enterprises. Shopping centers and trade facilities will operate until 17:00 on Saturdays and be closed on Sundays for sanitization. Catering facilities, including those in shopping centers, can operate from 19:00 to 23:00 with no more than 50% capacity, no collective events, and adherence to the Chief Sanitary Doctor's requirements.

Almaty currently finds itself in the yellow zone for coronavirus infection spread. The city has 23 COVID clinics with a capacity of 7,011 beds, including 250 intensive care units. Three new infectious hospitals have been built, and two clinics have been reconstructed.

A meeting was held in Almaty via video conferencing with over 70 heads of hospitals and clinics. The city's akimat (administration) was instructed to transfer 60-80% of employees in organizations with 15 or more staff to remote work.

The number of self-initiated COVID-19 tests by citizens in Almaty since the beginning of the pandemic is over 668,000. The opening of additional on-duty groups in kindergartens and on-duty classes in schools in Almaty was suspended.
