On Wednesday morning, July 24, 2025, a gas line explosion occurred near the intersection of Highway 60 and County Road 13 in Johnstown, Colorado. The incident occurred at 11:09 a.m., causing a stir in the quiet town.
The first responders on the scene were Front Range Fire Rescue, who arrived two minutes later. The emergency response was extensive, with crews from the Greeley Fire Department, Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue, UCHealth, Mountain View Fire Rescue, the Johnstown Police Department, and officials from the Town of Johnstown also present.
The blast from the explosion was felt throughout nearby neighborhoods, causing a small plane-like sound and a slight rumble in the ground, as reported by a local resident named Windy. Fortunately, nearby homes and businesses were reportedly unharmed, although some cars and a shed sustained damage.
The fire was extinguished by noon that day, with firefighters from Front Range Fire Rescue quickly beginning suppression efforts and having the blaze under control by 11:45 a.m. Five people were injured in the explosion, all with non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to Medical Center of the Rockies by UCHealth EMS and Mountain View Fire Rescue.
