In an unfortunate turn of events on Monday, September 1st, 2025, two individuals from Lippe were involved in separate electric scooter accidents while under the influence of alcohol.

The first incident occurred at approximately 21:45 on the sidewalk of Richthofenstraße, Detmold, where a 50-year-old resident crashed while heading out of town. The second accident took place at around 16:30 on the bike path along Liebigstraße towards Wasserfurche, involving a 68-year-old resident from Lemgo.

Both individuals sustained injuries in their respective crashes.

Electric scooters, considered motor vehicles, are subject to the same alcohol limits and legal consequences as car driving. In Germany, the legal alcohol limit for drivers is 0.5%, but for individuals under 21 or in the probationary period, it's 0.0%. At 0.3%, there's a 'relative inability to drive,' but only if there are signs of impaired driving or an accident occurs.

The 68-year-old Lemgo resident was visibly intoxicated, refused a voluntary alcohol test, and had no insurance plate on his electric scooter. He was taken to the clinic for a blood test following the crash in Lemgo. The Detmolder, who also crashed due to a driving error and was visibly under the influence of alcohol, exhibited similar behavior, refusing an alcohol test and having no insurance plate on his electric scooter.

It's important to note that riding electric scooters on sidewalks and in pedestrian zones is prohibited. Moreover, only one person is allowed to ride an electric scooter at a time, and they require annual insurance plates.

Fines, points, and driving bans apply from 0.5%, and from 1.1%, it's a criminal offense. The responsible person for the press office of the Lippe Police could not be explicitly named in the available search results.
