In a significant milestone, Kaiser Permanente's health plans in California have once again earned the highest overall quality rating for 2025. This recognition marks the sixth consecutive year that Kaiser Permanente has received this prestigious accolade.

According to Covered California, the state's health insurance marketplace for the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Kaiser Permanente's plans excelled in three key areas: "Getting the Right Care", "Members' Care Experience", and "Plan Services for Members".

This top rating is a testament to Kaiser Permanente's commitment to delivering high-quality care, clinical excellence, integrated services, and customer satisfaction. The organization's hospitals across the U.S., including the Downey Medical Center, are consistently ranked among the best in the nation for delivering safe, high-quality care.

Clinical Excellence and Outstanding Performance

Kaiser Permanente's exceptional clinical care and outcomes have been demonstrated by leading performance in the 2024 Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) report. In this comprehensive evaluation, health plans are assessed on about 200 care measures, including preventive care, chronic disease management, behavioral health, and specialty services.

Kaiser Permanente led the nation in effectiveness-of-care measures with nearly 70 eligible measures where Permanente Medical Groups outperformed other commercial health plans across the U.S. The organization also excelled in specific clinical measures such as adult immunization status, prenatal and postnatal depression screening and follow-up, cervical cancer screening, comprehensive diabetes care, and behavioral health measures. Southern California was rated highest nationally in 24 measures.

Strong management of risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol, and delivering timely services including screenings, vaccinations, follow-up care, and medication adherence, also contributed to Kaiser Permanente's top rating.

Comprehensive Coverage and Exceptional Customer Service

Kaiser Permanente's health plans offer comprehensive coverage plans that meet essential health benefits under the Affordable Care Act. These plans include mental health and substance use disorder services, virtual care options, and no exclusions for pre-existing conditions. The plans have also received high ratings (4.5 out of 5 stars) in Medicare Advantage plans for California based on quality and service categories such as preventive care, chronic care management, prescription drug services, customer service, and member satisfaction.

Recognition and Acknowledgement

Michelle Gaskill-Hames, president of Kaiser Permanente Southern California/Hawaii, Health Plan and Hospitals, stated that the recognition indicates their staff's dedication to members' health is making a difference in people's lives. Dr. Ramin Davidoff, executive medical director for the Southern California and Hawaii Permanente Medical Groups, noted that the accolade reflects the organization's physicians' and care teams' strong and unrelenting commitment to medical excellence and patient safety.

Insure.com, a widely-used web-based marketplace consumers across the country use to sign up for health insurance, ranked Kaiser Permanente as the "Best Health Insurance Company" in the U.S. on March 18, 2024.
