Fire and Gas Leak in Magdeburg Basement Hospitalizes Two
Emergency services responded to a basement fire in Harbker Street, Magdeburg, in the early hours. The fire led to a gas leak, with two people hospitalised and around 90 personnel still on duty to control the situation.
The fire department, upon arrival, discovered a leak of an unknown chemical, later identified as Monophosphan, a poisonous gas. They swiftly secured the hazardous material and contained the leak. The police, in collaboration with the fire department, cordoned off a 100-meter radius around the house to ensure public safety.
Several people were examined at the scene due to potential gas exposure. Two individuals were subsequently taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The cause of the leak is currently under investigation by the police.
The situation is now under control, with the fire department and police working together to secure the area and determine the cause of the leak. The identity of a 79-year-old resident, initially suspected in connection with the gas leak, remains unclear.
