Federal authorities should have acquired protective masks at an earlier stage, according to Spahn.
In an acknowledgement of the challenging times, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) has admitted that the federal government should have started earlier to procure masks during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Back in April, Spahn, then the Health Minister, expressed in the Bundestag that Germans would have to forgive each other a lot in the coming months regarding the pandemic. This sentiment was reiterated recently, as Spahn emphasised that he is not holding grudges.
However, it appears that the government's promised support for mask procurement was criticized as insufficient. Early warnings about impending shortages, which came as early as February, were not answered, and the ministry, along with Spahn, did not procure masks in time.
Meanwhile, no new facts about tense situations or forgiveness in Spahn's department were presented. Similarly, no new information about events where trust is deeply abused was disclosed.
A photograph of a Coronavirus notice in retail, published by dts Nachrichtenagentur, serves as a stark reminder of the pandemic's impact on everyday life. The notice is related to the Coronavirus, but Spahn has stated that he only considers deeply abused trust as unforgivable in private.
Despite these admissions, Spahn also acknowledges that there were tense situations in his department in March and April where he could have been fairer to his colleagues. However, no further details about these situations were provided.
As the nation continues to navigate through the pandemic, Spahn's admissions serve as a reminder of the challenges faced and the lessons learned during this unprecedented time.
