The accident happened around 10:50 AM between the Lederhose and Hermsdorf South exits. A 56-year-old driver of a VW Tiguan from Leipzig lost consciousness due to a heart attack, causing their vehicle to collide with a Ford S-Max and a 1 Series BMW. The Tiguan came to a halt half on the hard shoulder, with the driver sadly pronounced dead despite immediate first aid and resuscitation attempts. The passengers in the Ford sustained minor injuries, while no other personal injuries were reported. The vehicles suffered an estimated 20,000 euros worth of damage. The Berlin-bound lane was closed for medical assistance and road cleaning until 12:15 PM, causing significant traffic disruption.
