Elderly pedestrian severely harmed, struck by a truck and facing critical conditions
In the heart of Essen-Kupferdreh, a tragic incident unfolded on Prinz-Friedrich-Straße on September 17th, around 11:30 AM. An 84-year-old pedestrian was struck and run over by a truck, causing severe injuries.
Emergency services were swiftly called to the scene, and a traffic accident investigation team was on-hand to gather evidence. Witnesses provided first aid to the critically injured pedestrian until the arrival of the emergency services.
The truck driver, a 34-year-old individual, was taken to the hospital with shock and remains there. An 82-year-old companion of the pedestrian was also injured and received medical attention.
The authorities responsible for investigating the accident are the Hamburg Fire Department, which falls under the Ministry of the Interior and Sports and handles emergency services in Hamburg. The police control center received a report of the traffic accident on Prinz-Friedrich-Straße.
The intersection on Prinz-Friedrich-Straße where the accident occurred was partially closed during the operation. Many eyewitnesses and first responders received on-site psychological support.
The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for immediate treatment. The police have begun investigating the cause of the accident.
