Drugs Administrated in Autumn, According to Minister Warken

In a statement to the German Press Agency, the Federal Minister of Health, Nina Warken, has expressed confidence in a stable situation regarding the availability of drugs this fall and winter.

Warken, who succeeded Karl Lauterbach in the role, emphasised the high priority given to the drug supply at both the national and European level. She highlighted the implementation of the Anti-Shortage Law in 2023, which was enacted to address acute supply problems, particularly with children's medications.

The Anti-Shortage Law, a crucial measure aimed at improving the availability of frequently used drugs, has relaxed price rules to make deliveries to Germany more attractive for manufacturers. It has also mandated several months' worth of stocks of these drugs as a safety buffer.

Under this law, pharmacies have been given more flexibility to exchange suitable available drugs. This reform, as Warken mentioned, is intended to provide pharmacies with more leeway, ensuring they can cater to the needs of patients effectively.

Moreover, Warken stated that prompt measures can be taken to address any drug shortages. She also mentioned EU regulations planned to strengthen the production location in Europe, which is expected to further bolster the drug supply.

While Warken acknowledged the concerns of the public given the past situation, she did not specify any new measures or laws in this paragraph. However, she assured that the improvements seen, particularly with children's drugs, compared to previous years, are a testament to the effectiveness of the Anti-Shortage Law.

Warken's comments aim to provide reassurance and address the concerns of the public, focusing on providing more flexibility for pharmacies and strengthening the European production location. The minister's commitment to ensuring a stable drug supply is a promising sign for the future.
