Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre in Pimpri, Pune, has been honoured with two significant awards in recognition of its outstanding contributions to organ donation and transplantation.

The institution received the 'Best Brain Stem Death (BSD) Team in Maharashtra' award and the 'Best Organ Transplant Coordinator Award' at a ceremony organised by ROTTO-SOTTO (Regional cum State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization – Western Region & Maharashtra) on Indian Organ Donation Day.

The awards were presented to Dr. Yashraj Patil, Trustee and Treasurer of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune, by Prakashrao Abitkar, Minister of Public Health & Family Welfare, Government of Maharashtra. The ceremony took place at the Dr. Sen and Dr. Kinare Auditorium, Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital in Mumbai.

Key representatives from the hospital, including Dr. H.H. Chavan (Medical Superintendent) and Dr. Vrushali Patil (Director, Organ Donation & Transplant Department), were present at the event. Two hospital staff members, Vasanti Musalde and Alishiba Wakde, received special recognition with the Best Organ Transplant Coordinator Award for their exceptional efforts.

This recognition highlights the leadership and excellence of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College’s BSD team and its significant role in advancing organ donation and transplantation in Maharashtra. The awards come as a testament to the hospital's commitment to saving lives through organ donation.

Dr. Yashraj Patil expressed future goals for the medical college, stating that they aim to make advancements in transplant surgeries involving liver, kidneys, pancreas, eyes, heart, and lungs. He also emphasised the importance of public awareness about organ donation, urging every individual to come forward to accelerate the organ donation movement.

Dr. P. D. Patil, Chancellor, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune, expressed that this award further strengthens their organ donation and transplant mission. He added that the hospital follows international benchmarks that are performance-driven as well as patient-centric.
