Digital aid streamlines care for individuals coping with dementia online
New Web Platform DementiaNet Offers Support for Dementia Care
This week marks Dementia Action Week, and a new web platform called DementiaNet has been launched to support people living with dementia and their caregivers. Developed using lived experience and extensive research, DementiaNet aims to be a comprehensive resource for managing life with dementia.
DementiaNet adapts to users' specific situations, whether they are worried about symptoms, have received a diagnosis, or are caring for someone with dementia. The platform offers integrated care coordination, allowing different care providers to share information and coordinate interventions efficiently.
Communication tools facilitate interaction between caregivers, healthcare teams, and patients to improve involvement and support. Personalized care plans enable tailored management based on the specific needs and preferences of the person living with dementia. Monitoring and feedback tracks patient progress and caregiver input to optimize care strategies over time.
DementiaNet is focused on simplicity and clarity to minimize the distress of searching for information. The platform is user-friendly, personalized, and empowering. It offers a secure digital vault, downloadable planning tools, and a step-by-step dashboard.
Dementia support groups can add their events or gatherings to DementiaNet using the built-in search tool, connecting users with local dementia support activities. An online forum is also available to tackle emotional and social isolation.
A 2024 DementiaNet survey found that 88% of respondents felt unhappy or unsatisfied with existing general dementia-related information. The survey also found that 36% of respondents were dissatisfied with government support information. Fewer than one in three respondents felt "fairly satisfied" with the help they found.
The number of people living with dementia in the UK is expected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040. The NHS estimates that 1 in 3 people will care for someone with dementia at some point in their lives. DementiaNet's aim is to grow and develop to meet this growing need, providing a calm, informative, and manageable place for people affected by dementia.
DementiaNet is available free of charge with optional paid features for the secure planner and document store. The platform was created by three co-founders, two of whom have personal experience with the dementia journey. Accessing official DementiaNet resources or recent scientific publications would be necessary to learn about the latest and most detailed features of the new DementiaNet platform.
