Delhi's Chief Minister Introduces Innovative Health Data Control System
Delhi, July 24, 2025 - Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the expanded Health Information Management System (HIMS) on this day, marking a significant step towards modernising healthcare delivery in the capital. The HIMS, based on the NextGen e-Hospital software and integrating Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs, aims to provide continued and effective treatment by digitally connecting hospitals, doctors, and patients.
In a bid to deliver results and complete unfinished projects, the current government has set up a total of 68 Ayushman Mandirs within a month, offering primary health services such as vaccination, maternal and child care, wellness counselling, and yoga sessions. Rekha Gupta inaugurated 34 of these Ayushman Mandirs and eight Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which offer essential medicines at subsidised rates, in government hospitals.
The HIMS offers several key functionalities and benefits aimed at enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of healthcare services. Patients can now book OPD (Outpatient Department) appointments online, eliminating the need for long queues and physical visits to hospitals for scheduling. Once appointments are booked, patients receive digital OPD slips, reducing the need for physical documentation and making it easier to manage appointments.
HIMS also allows patients to access their health records in real-time. This centralises patient data, making it easier for healthcare providers to access medical history and make informed decisions. The system is integrated with ABHA IDs, which helps in securely and centrally tracking patient health data. This integration ensures that patient records are linked across different healthcare providers, enhancing the continuity of care.
The HIMS is designed to streamline healthcare services, saving time for both patients and healthcare providers. It increases transparency by providing centralised access to health records, making healthcare more accessible and reducing bureaucratic barriers. The system significantly improves the overall patient experience by eliminating the need for physical visits for appointment bookings or obtaining health records.
HIMS connects patients, doctors, and hospitals on a single platform, facilitating better coordination among healthcare stakeholders. By digitizing health records and integrating them with ABHA IDs, HIMS enhances the security and privacy of patient data. More Jan Aushadhi Kendras will be added in the coming months, further expanding the reach of affordable healthcare services.
Rekha Gupta criticized the previous AAP government for not completing any healthcare projects despite investing thousands of crores of rupees. The previous government allegedly left behind foundation pillars and iron porta cabins, with no medicines, doctors, or accountability. The current government, on the other hand, is focused on delivering results and completing unfinished projects that were pending for years.
The CM's vision is to develop Delhi as a hub of super-speciality hospitals and modern facilities for quality treatment. Over 93 lakh ABHA IDs have already been generated in Delhi. The HIMS is now live for OPD registrations in 35 government hospitals, and will soon be implemented across all public health institutions in a phased manner.
