Decreased Popularity in Corona App Downloads

The RKI's Corona app, a crucial tool in Germany's fight against the pandemic, has seen a total of 22.4 million downloads since its launch. This number includes over 801,000 downloads in the 44th calendar week, although the following week, when the lockdown began, saw a decrease to 590,000 downloads.

Currently, around 90 percent of testing laboratories are directly connected to the Corona-Warn-App, with the decision to connect the remaining 10 percent being made by the Corona-Warn-App project management in coordination with the German Federal Ministry of Health.

The app has proven effective in alerting individuals who may have been exposed to the virus. In the 45th calendar week alone, there were around 15,000 warnings sent, corresponding to 11.8 percent of all newly infected individuals tested in that period. As of last Thursday, around 60,000 people who tested positive have used the app to warn others, which represents approximately 7.8 percent of all registered infections.

However, it's still unknown how many of the registered downloads are multiple downloads by individual users, providing a potential area for further investigation.

The Corona-Warn-App continues to play a significant role in Germany's efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, offering a means for individuals to take an active part in protecting their communities.
