Davina McCall, the renowned television presenter, has recently announced the release of her new book titled Birthing. This insightful guide, set to hit the shelves this month, offers support and guidance for women navigating through pregnancy, birth, and post-partum experiences.

McCall's personal experience has played a significant role in shaping the content of the book. She opened up about her own experiences, including her underactive thyroid and the advice she received from midwife Caroline Flint to take 10 days of bed rest after giving birth.

The book delves into a variety of topics, from conception and the trimesters, to birth and post-partum care. McCall emphasises the importance of mental state during childbirth and meeting the baby, drawing from her own experiences as well as the expertise of registered midwife and hypnobirthing instructor Marley Henry.

Birthing also provides support for various birth experiences, including elective caesareans, epidural births, and difficult births. McCall's book takes a non-judgmental approach, providing options for readers.

The author's personal journey is interwoven with real-life stories and expert insights from various fields. McCall's first child, Holly, was born in September, the same month that Birthing is being released.

The book was inspired by McCall's own experiences, as well as the difficult pregnancy and premature birth of her mother, Florence, and Florence's hysterectomy at the age of 28 due to ovarian cancer. This prompted McCall to have a full health check before trying to conceive.

McCall's book aims to help readers navigate through potential hardships, such as the loss of a baby or surrogacy. She also emphasises the importance of recovery strategies, such as getting out in nature and surrounding oneself with people.

The book, Birthing (HQ, £11), is currently available for purchase. It is a must-read for any woman embarking on the journey of pregnancy and childbirth.
