Veteran Dutch moderator Sylvie Meis shares her harrowing experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer over 16 years ago, detailing the emotional trauma it caused her during a recent episode of the "Bild" podcast "May Way." In 2009, her worst fears came true when she was diagnosed with the disease.

"It was like an earthquake," Meis recounted, describing the moment she discovered a lump in her breast. As she delved deeper into her personal history, she expressed that she thinks about the cancer every day, revealing her initial terror and gratitude for having survived it.

Upon her diagnosis, Meis underwent surgery to remove the tumor and underwent chemotherapy, which resulted in her losing her hair. However, she found solace and a new beginning when she participated in RTL's dance show "Let's Dance" in 2010, marking both a memorable moment in her TV career and her first public appearance after treatment. Boasting her short hair on the stage, she proudly revealed herself to the public for the first time.

Prior to gaining prominence in Germany, Sylvie Meis was admittedly recognized as the wife of former footballer Rafael van der Vaart. The couple married in 2005 and welcomed their son Damian in May 2006. Despite separating and divorcing in 2013, Meis has since considered them "good friends."
