"He said she wanted to die" — Man admits to keeping wife's body in a barrel after fatal stabbing
Corpse Found in Barrel - Husband Admitted to Wife's Murder
In a shocking confession at the Regional Court of Trier, a husband admitted to stabbing his mentally ill wife to death and storing her body in a barrel in his apartment for weeks. The defendant stated that his wife, who had previously expressed a desire to die, made the request and they drank whiskey together afterwards.
According to the defendant, his wife had been mentally unwell for a long time and had attempted suicide multiple times. He said that following her death, he sealed the barrel with foil and tape, and taped off the room as well, due to the strong odor.
The victim's emaciated body was discovered inside the 200-liter barrel, leading Chief Prosecutor Eric Samel to describe the case as a "tragic constellation." He emphasized that there was no evidence of an explicit killing intent from the victim at the time of the crime. The incident is believed to have taken place in mid-October 2024. The defendant turned himself into police at the beginning of December.
The woman spent her final days only on the couch, not leaving the apartment, according to the indictment. She was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and was taking strong psychotropic drugs. During the autopsy, it was discovered that she died from blood loss combined with lung failure, and also had a psychotropic drug overdose.
