Belarusians Remain Unvaccinated amidst Vaccination Drive

In the heart of Eastern Europe, Belarus is making strides in the development of a coronavirus vaccine. President Alexander Lukashenko issued Decree No. 430, an investment project for creating vaccine preparations, back in the fall of 2020, when the pandemic was at its peak.

The project is being spearheaded by BelVituniPharm, a Belarusian pharmaceutical company. According to the decree, the company is currently engaged in the development of a coronavirus vaccine. The government has mandated support for the project and outlined strategic directives, with the aim of bringing the vaccine from research and development to mass immunisation within Belarus.

The project is in an active research and development phase, with future plans including completing clinical trials, scaling up production capacity, and ensuring the vaccine's availability for the nation. The decree also emphasises collaboration with relevant health authorities and scientific institutions to expedite the vaccine's approval and distribution.

However, there seems to be a main problem with Decree No. 430: the incomplete production complex for vaccine release. Lukashenko has expressed dissatisfaction about its non-implementation and has demanded that officials make a decision on whether to complete the investment project independently or attract investors.

In a recent meeting, Lukashenko discussed the progress of the BelVituniPharm enterprise, a potential producer of the Belarusian vaccine against the coronavirus. The President inquired about the implementation status of Decree No. 430 and expressed frustration that those responsible are not taking action.

The press service of Lukashenko has provided details about the status of Decree No. 430, stating that expensive equipment related to the decree remains idle. The completion date for the implementation of the investment project for the production of a coronavirus vaccine at BelVituniPharm, as stated in the decree, is 2023.

Despite the challenges, Lukashenko has been adamant about the importance of the project. He warned that he will not accept excuses for the non-implementation of Decree No. 430 and has urged officials to take swift action to ensure the success of the Belarusian vaccine development project.

  1. The Belarusian government is emphasizing collaboration with relevant medical-conditions institutions for the swift approval and distribution of the Belarusian coronavirus vaccine, which is currently in an active research and development phase by BelVituniPharm.
  2. As BelVituniPharm works towards completing clinical trials and scaling up production capacity for the coronavirus vaccine, the timely completion of the incomplete production complex, as mandated by Decree No. 430, is crucial for the mass immunisation and health-and-wellness of the Belarusian population.
