Thermae Bath Spa: A Unique Blend of Ancient Tradition and Modern Luxury

Nestled in the historic city of Bath, England, Thermae Bath Spa offers a unique and unparalleled spa experience. Opened in 2006, the spa combines Britain's only natural thermal hot springs with contemporary facilities, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the same warm, mineral-rich waters that the Celts and Romans enjoyed over 2,000 years ago.

The spa sits atop natural thermal springs, which have been valued since prehistoric times and were developed by the Romans around 60 AD. These waters, emerging at about 42°C (113°F) from about 3 kilometers underground, contain 42 minerals believed to have healing properties. The water was historically used for health treatments and is still thought to provide therapeutic benefits.

The spa's architectural style is a stark contrast to Bath's historic Georgian stone buildings, with the New Royal Bath, designed by Sir Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners, being a contemporary structure that houses most of the spa's facilities, including the steam rooms, treatment rooms, and an outdoor rooftop pool. This rooftop pool offers stunning views of Bath, particularly at sunset and when the Abbey is lit up at night.

The atmosphere at Thermae Bath Spa is welcoming and friendly, with a contrast between luxury and informality. The Aroma Steam Rooms, with their sleek design and four glass pods, and the central waterfall shower, provide a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. The Minerva pool, designed in a curved shape, offers a relaxing, stress-relieving experience, with massage jets and a slow current for added relaxation.

In addition to the pools and steam rooms, Thermae Bath Spa offers a variety of spa treatments, including the Watsu hydrotherapy treatment, the Thermae Oriental Massage, which combines techniques from around the world, and the Serenity Candle Massage, which uses hot shea butter and almond oil, released by burning a special candle.

The spa sessions start at £27 for two hours, and the Cross Bath, a private pool, can be hired out by parties of up to twelve people. To preserve tranquility, mobile phone use is strictly prohibited inside the spa.

The Springs Café Restaurant offers a tempting menu of indulgent treats and healthy options, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of relaxation. With its focus on relaxation, historic ambiance, and modern amenities, Thermae Bath Spa is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a unique and memorable spa experience.

Weekends can be very busy, so the best time to visit the spa is during the week. For those seeking an evening spa experience, the Twilight Package, designed for the rooftop spa, is an ideal choice.
