Aschaffenburg's 'Hold on to what connects us': A Free Dementia Awareness Event

Aschaffenburg is hosting an insightful and engaging event as part of Bavarian Dementia Week. 'Hold on to what connects us' will take place on Friday, September 19, from 2 PM onwards at Martinushaus. The event is free and offers a unique opportunity to learn and experience aspects of dementia firsthand.

The event kicks off with a vernissage at 5 PM on Wednesday, September 17, showcasing an art exhibition titled 'Art Dementia Community' by Sarah Brendecke. The exhibition, running until October 16, features works created by people with dementia in Aschaffenburg during summer 2025.

The main event on September 19 begins at 3 PM with Mayor Jürgen Herzing welcoming attendees. Iris Schubert from the Bavarian Office of Food, Agriculture and Forestry will then deliver a lecture on the importance of joy in eating and social participation for people with dementia.

Dr. Claudia Wenzel, an expert in the field, will also speak at the event, providing practical tips on empathetic interaction, meal adaptation, and preventing weight loss and malnutrition. Participants will have the chance to experience a sensory course, allowing them to understand changed sensory perceptions and learn how to adapt meals and surroundings for people with dementia.

The event is organized by local care support points, senior consultation services, health regions, and foundations, aiming to sensitize participants to the needs of people with dementia.

The 'Bavarian Dementia Week: Hold on to what connects us' event in Aschaffenburg promises to be an enlightening and interactive experience. With free admission, it's an excellent opportunity for relatives, volunteers, and those affected by dementia to gain insights and learn practical skills.
