Arizona State University to Launch Inaugural Pregnancy Awareness Week on Campus
Pregnant on Campus Week Kicks Off at Arizona State University
The Students for Life Group at Arizona State University (ASU) is organizing the nation's first Pregnant on Campus Week from March 13-16, 2017. The event aims to offer resources, support, and information for pregnant and parenting students on campus.
The Pregnant on Campus Initiative, a project of Students for Life of America, is at the heart of this week-long event. The initiative, which provides hope, empowerment, community, and resources for pregnant and parenting students, is active at more than 500 schools across the United States.
Mariah Martinez, the chair of the ASU Pregnant on Campus Initiative, is leading the charge at ASU. The initiative offers a variety of resources, including breastfeeding rooms, childcare options, Title IX rights, school aid for students with families, and information about local pregnancy resource centers and resources available at ASU.
The motto for Pregnant on Campus Week at ASU is "Fearlessly pursuing family and education." The event will feature table displays at Hayden Lawn, a central part of ASU's campus, where attendees can learn more about fetal development, write letters of encouragement to pregnant peers, and donate to a baby shower drive to support pregnant moms on campus.
Beth Rahal, the national director of the Pregnant on Campus Initiative, has expressed her support for the initiative. Rahal applauded the student leaders for supporting their peers in difficult and vulnerable moments.
The university's Family Resources department will also be available to discuss school aid for students with families. Attendees will have the opportunity to utilize social media frames showing their support for parenting students.
The Pregnant on Campus Initiative also provides emotional support for pregnant and parenting students. It is important to note that the initiative is a project of Students for Life of America, a pro-life organization. However, the initiative is not mentioned as having any affiliation with Catholic World Report.
