In a bid to combat the rising incidence of COVID-19, the city of Düsseldorf has expanded its network of COVID-19 rapid test stations. These test stations, now conveniently located near residents' homes, are part of a wider effort to support protective measures against the virus.

Pharmacies, private test centers, and other service providers that meet certain requirements can now offer free rapid tests and settle with the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (SHI). The new general decree of the state of NRW allows providers that meet specific requirements to offer free rapid tests. Conversations with providers are ongoing to further expand the testing offer throughout the city area.

Local authorities typically commission additional service providers through a public tender or application process managed by the city administration or local health authorities. Requirements commonly include compliance with health regulations and standards for COVID-19 testing, certification or authorization to conduct rapid antigen tests, adequate staffing with trained personnel, facilities meeting hygiene and safety standards, the ability to report test results promptly to health authorities, and possibly proof of liability insurance and registration with local health departments.

The city's official health department announcements or direct contact with them would provide the most accurate and up-to-date information on Düsseldorf’s current process and requirements.

Residents of Düsseldorf now have access to several additional test stations, including MedCo Testzentrum (Vogelsanger Weg 66), Corona-Test-Point (Uhlandstr. 11, corner of Grafenberger Allee), Atrium Apotheke (Lindemannstraße 83), Medicare Testzentrum (Mühlenstraße 2, Burgplatz), Vital Apotheke am Brehmplatz (Rethelstraße 174), Kloster‐Apotheke (Oststraße 51), medi-Apotheke (Schadowstraße 80), Schwanen-Apotheke (Köln Straße 258), Licht-Apotheke (Lichtstr. 49), Oberkasseler Apotheke (Luegallee 39), and Pflege Täglich (Daniel Schott, Emil-Barth-Str. 3). Appointments for the rapid tests can be made online at corona.duesseldorf.de/schnelltest.

Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller has stated that exchanging with private providers has led to the addition of these test locations. Rapid tests can potentially break infection chains and help detect undetected infections, making them a useful measure in the fight against COVID-19.

Science and health-and-wellness play significant roles in the city of Düsseldorf's efforts to combat COVID-19, as local authorities are forming partnerships with private providers to offer free rapid tests at various test stations. These test stations, which include MedCo Testzentrum, Corona-Test-Point, Atrium Apotheke, and others, are part of a wider initiative to support protective measures against the virus and potentially break infection chains.
